hard wax - the superior choice
Also known as stripless wax. This is the ONLY wax that we use at Waxologie. It is the most common wax among large franchises (European Wax Center, Lunchbox Wax and Waxing the City). It is typically the most painless method because it does not stick to skin, therefore only pulling on hair. It is applied warm, usually in the direction of hair growth, as it sits to harden, it lifts up off of the skin and adheres just to the hairs, then it’s pulled quickly against the direction of the hair growth. Most people say this method is the most comfortable and painless. Keep in mind the franchises’ have a specially formulated wax that is much stickier, so that they can wax at the fastest possible rate, but it can result in breaking your hairs, rather than pulling them out, giving you unnecessary ingrown hairs.
Pros: If the skin is prepared correctly, it can be used on all skin types, even on sensitive skin. Hard wax is great for medium to coarse hairs. It is not sticky, so there is no tugging or pulling on your skin and no residue is left behind.
Cons: It can have a hard time picking up thin hair, but special techniques can be used by the Esthetician to help combat this.
Sugar Wax - A PAINFUL CHOICE
Also known as sugaring or sugar paste. This is is usually made up of white sugar, water and lemon. With this easy recipe, many Estheticians will make it at home. It is usually cool or mildly warm and is applied against the direction of hair growth, then pulled in short tugs in the direction of the hair growth. Some people say this method is more comfortable than strip wax, but it is still sticky enough to pull skin.
Pros: It’s a great method for getting fine to coarse hairs and little residue is typically left on the skin.
Cons: It can leave your skin red and greatly pulls/tugs on skin.
Strip Wax - A PAINFUL CHOICE
Also known as soft wax. This is the type of wax that sticks to the skin, so it needs to be used with muslin strips. The hot wax is applied with a stick in the direction of the hair growth, a muslin strip is applied and then pulled off in the opposite direction. It is commonly used at hair and nail salons for facial waxing.
Pros: It’s a great method for getting the softest, finest hairs.
Cons: It leaves residue, leaves your skin red, can pull off skin and can hurt the most because it’s the stickiest.
